Ok,I think we'll be using this blog for updates on the english project.
We shall still go by the name 'Revolutionary Productions'.
And I'll try and edit the blog details.
Delete the unnecessary posts and stuff.
So here's the first announcement.

I think a powerpoint will be boring.
So if we just do typing,it'll be too boring too.
So I got a proposal.
It'll be quite difficult but I am confident this will bring us some good marks.
My idea is a video.
And we're going to do it like a movie trailer that summarizes the whole story.
But it does not include the ending part where she dies.
It ends of with her last diary entry.
This will be acted out by us.
And I also want to request that I will be in charge of this video.
We don't all have to act it out.
So maybe 3 actresses only and one guy construction worker.
And the rest that are not involved in the trailer production can work on her blog diary.
Yeah...
I planned out the whole timeline already for the trailer and I think it'll work out great.
It's going to be like very grand and melodramatic.
Yeah!
So I hope you'll say yes to this idea and let me have the reigns on this one:D
-Megan.

UNCOMPLETED

At the start of the film, the director films a scene of the protagonist awakened in bed but too lazy to move. This is meant to enhance the fact that he has nothing better to do than just to wait for time to catch up with him, to dully follow the everydays of life itself.
He then slowly gets out of bed and the director slowly plays through his boring lifestyle, washing up before his day, straightening his tie, eyes glazing over in the bus, a long distance to the top of the escalator, where he spends his time staring into nowhere.
Finally the director shows a clip of a business woman traveling down the opposite escalator and some embarrassment and blush colours his eyes and face. He looks at her and back down quickly to show the fact that he has taken some interest in the woman. Momentarily, the viewers will be interested in knowing how this random occurrence with a woman would turn out.
Later on, the director then films him walking boredly through the crowd along the street again with nothing on his mind, a lonely and sorrowful face. He arrives at the entrance of his department and hesitates and he looks around and observes how his surrounding seems busy and slightly more excited than he is feeling then. He then sighs and continues his walk.
The character sits down at his table with another sigh and thinks of something to do. He then walks to the printer room and watches the papers photocopied one by one, colour in his eyes as if that could be an exciting thing for him. The numerous one after another activities manage to build tension and allows the viewers time to imagine what would happen in the end and how the story would turn out, thus creating tension.
The character then walks down for some fresh air and watches a girl facing the other way. She walks towards him and anticipation colours his eyes, but it turns to disappointment when he realizes she was heading for the bin behind him. This second rejection encounter with a woman gives the viewers an idea that the film’s ending has everything to do with a female.
The director manages to further enhance that fact when they show the protagonist returning home after another boring day on the bus and a couple kiss infront of him.
The protagonist continues to wallow in his loneliness at home and another day begins, not much excitement to begin with. About 3 minutes into the movie, the protagonist starts looking sideways constantly throughout the day, as if to wait for someone. This builds up even more suspense in the audience as we try to figure out who it is or what it was.
The director then shows a short part where he looks out the window and sees another long haired woman and the look on his face was aweing and amazed at what he saw. The woman looks back and he pretends to be frantically solving a problem in front of him. But he turns back and she continues to turn back too, in the end he figures out she was looking at him. They then introduce themselves with written signs flashed at each other. Their short chat ends there but he does not stop smiling. This creates even more suspense for the audience as they try to wonder what would be of it.

Setting. Ehh megan, idk how to phrase lehs. Can help me so called phrase it anw Idk if correct nots.
In the first few minutes of the film, the film shows the protagonist alone. From the moment he woke up and when he goes to work and back home, he has always been alone. In the office, he also hardly communicates with his colleagues. Later, Jason always looks at women but feel depressed when they does not look back. Finally when he met stacy, he became panicky and started chatting to her through writing on the paper. Also after meeting Stacey, he finally smiles in the show. After meeting Stacey, Jason becomes more happy and smiles almost everyday. When Stacey wasn’t in her office, Jason became very worried and tried ways to find her but to no avail. After seeing her on the top level, Jason became happy again. Eventually they decided to meet each other.

A. here! :)
Hey long time since I last logged into blogger. HAHA~ ^^v

Anyway, here's what we did for Characterisation.

Film Studies - Group Presentation

Signs

This film is basically about communication and how the protagonist met someone who really cared about him and made him happy, changing his mundane and boring lifestyle into cheerful and contented one that he looked forward to everyday.

The film starts with the alarm clock beeping, from 0:13 to 0:50, the film portrays the writer’s dull and unexciting lifestyle. This shows that the writer does not look forward to his everyday life. He looks listless and bored during this clip, especially in 0:29, he looks at himself in the mirror and sighs; it really says a lot about how he does not like spending his life like that everyday. When he comes to the office, he looks around and sees the busy and feels the tensed surroundings, and then reluctantly sits at his seat and starts working. In 0:43, he turns his head and looks at a lady shyly, at 1:18 he meets another lady, and this time the lady walks towards his direction, he thinks he has a chance, so he smiles to himself. I believe he is very lonely and searching for his someone suitable to spend his life with. When he realizes at 1:32 that the lady did not notice him, he turned back and frowned.

Next, at 1:39, the protagonist is in a meeting, but he does not seem to be paying attention as seen in the 1:49 where his boss tells a joke and he does not seem to be listening and when the others are laughing, he looks at them puzzled and then pretends to be laughing. I can see from this that the author is forlorn and is unhappy. At scene 2:02, he sees a couple behaving affectionately, he looks at them enviously, as he feels with love, he would no longer be lonely.

The next scene is when he reaches home, and listens to the messages left for him, he finds out that his parents are not able to come home to eat with him, he does not bother most probably because he is already used to being alone.

At 3:12, he spots a lady again. He stares at her, amazed, it is just like love at first sight, he turns back and when she looks away, he turns back to look at the lady again. The lady meets his gaze, and starts to communicate with the protagonist using signs written on paper. At 4:17, the lady writes ‘I’m kidding’ and that is one of the first times that the protagonist smiles so genuinely. The lady then introduces herself, and both of them become friends. From the protagonist’s expression, I can tell that he is very happy yet surprised that he could make friends with someone who is talking to him using signs and on the opposite block. At 5:01, the author places the ‘nice two meet you’ note on the refridgerator, I suppose he is putting it up as he is really glad and wants to cherish these happy moments that he has yet to experience in a long time.

The next day, from 5:05 to 5:07, it is a total opposite from the beginning of the film, before he met the woman, this time, instead of looking listless, he is energized and feels happy and gets out of bed willingly, and on the way to work, he walks with a skip in his step, this shows how pleased he is and how he looks forward to another day of talking to Stacey. At 5:15, they start playing games using signs, this shows that their friendship is getting better and they are even playing during working hours. In 5:18, Jason falls off the chair and Stacey has a good laugh, although Jason feels embarrassed, I’m sure he feels that he is lucky to have made a new friend like Stacey.

At 5:53 to 6:00, Stacey shows a smiley face to Jason, but Jason picks up a paper with figures instead of the smiley face he drew on the paper. He finds out that he photocopied the smiley instead of the paper with figures. From this, I can tell that Jason’s friendship with Stacey is really building up to the extent that he is too preoccupied with communicating with signs with Stacey and is not concentrating in work.

At 6:06, Jason’s fridge is filled with more signs, I believe the more signs on the fridge the happier he is and the better their friendship is. The next day, at 6:14, Stacey actually shows a picture of boobs to Jason, Jason laughs loudly and everyone turns to look at him, while Stacey continues to dance around with her picture of boobs. Their friendship has progressed to the stage that each of them is not even embarrassed about each other and they share anything with each other that comes to mind.

At 6:25, the number of papers on the fridge increases, as the papers accumulate each day, the more joyful Jason is. It can be seen from the way he throws his bottle of milk light-heartedly in the air as he takes it out of the fridge.

From 6:48 to 7:02, Stacey shares a secret with Jason and admits that she was staring at Jason first, from this I can tell that they have advanced to a stage where they can share secrets like good friends do and admit about something embarrassing. At 7:08 to 7:35, he hestitates whether to ask Stacey whether she wants to meet. Then, at 7:40, he goes to the mirror, and tries to practice asking Stacey out, I think he is overly conscious about himself, because in actual fact, I think Stacey just wants to know to natural him and does not want him to play cool. He figures that he should just be natural and the next day when his alarm beeps, he rushes off hastily, in a rush to meet Stacey and ask her out. The first thing he does is to take out the paper and put it at the window. Unfortunately, Stacey is not there. She is being replaced by another male worker, Jason looks shocked and disappointed. From 8:37 to 9:44, he is back to his usual self, the lonely, quiet and gloomy self. He is preoccupied by thoughts and I believe he is wondering whether Stacey would ever come back and whether he would ever be able to see her again.

At this moment, (9:46) a light is being reflected on Jason, Jason looks towards the light, and he spots Stacey on the higher floor. Stacey explains with please that she has just been promoted. Jason takes this chance to ask if she would want to celebrate. From 10:18 to 10:20, Stacey waits impatiently and seems to be waiting for her expected answer (‘Do you want to meet’.) Jason finally asks her, and runs quickly and happily down to the road. They meet, and instead of letting Jason speak, Stacey puts a sign saying ‘hi’.

This film ends off with a happy ending and it ends with a twist, viewers may not have expected that Stacey would have got promoted; therefore they must have predicted that this film would not end with a happy ending. In the end, Stacey and Jason got together and Jason made a 180 degree turn and changed from a lonely person to a cheerful person. I feel that communication, friendship, love and loneliness were the more obvious themes in this film, as portrayed in many parts during this film. Furthermore, the change of mood and music helped to build tension and suspense in the film.

Saturday, 6 February 2010

Miss Teow hasn't yet sent me the edited versions of the proposals I typed out so here's the unedited version for you in case you need it as filming is on Monday.

Scene 1

(Past/Flashback)
Mandy is hand in hand with her mum, giggling away as she licks on an ice cream. She playfully asks her mum if she wants some. (To portray the close relationship of Mandy and her mum, Sylvia.)

(Mandy’s regretful voice sounds in the background)

Scene 2

Mandy arrives home, ignoring her mother’s presence. She flings her stuff on the floor along the way as she heads into her room. Sylvia asks Mandy how her day had been. Mandy rudely replies ‘fine’ and continues to ignore her mum, heading towards her room.

Sylvia picks up the dropped belongings of Mandy’s and stumbles after her daughter.

As soon as Sylvia straightens up, in a stance to chat with Mandy, Mandy’s bedroom door is being slammed in her face, by none other than Mandy herself.

Sylvia drops her hands to her side dejectedly, but sucks it up and decides to try again to win her ignorant daughter back.

Scene 3

Mandy has a pissed off look (she always does) plastered on her face as she sets up her slumming area. Magazines and accessories are strewn everywhere. Mandy empties out a plastic bag full of new and expensive cosmetics purchased during her shopping spree that day.

Sylvia then steps into Mandy’s room to try and chat with Mandy again. Mandy sees Sylvia approaching her out of the peripheral vision of her eye and immediately fits on a headphone onto her head.

Mandy rocks/sways to the music and acts as if her mum isn’t there. Sylvia, however, sits down on her chair to try and look casual and hints at the daughter if she has remembered her birthday, in the hope that she’ll remember it this year.

Sadly, Mandy proceeds to ignore Sylvia and only mutters ‘hm’s in reply, still bopping her head to the music.

Sylvia gets disappointed once again. But she never gives up hope. We then see that actually, Mandy’s headphones weren’t plugged in at all.

Scene 4

Sylvia drags her heavy feet over to the kitchen counter, where she supports her weight on her hands.

When she turns to walk away, we see that the ‘special event’ Mandy has forgotten was her mum’s birthday, according to the calendar on the wall.

Scene 5

Mandy hangs out at her place with her clique, having a sleepover. The girls start bimbo-ing (flipping through magazines and playing with cosmetics as though they’re bored) as they ‘act’ like they have nothing better to do besides being in this clique and hating life.

Mandy casually whines about her mum being so interfering in her life. One of her friends agrees with her and complains about her parents. Another girl joins in the debate and it soon turns into a heated rant.

Yvonne feels disappointed upon seeing her friends think these about her parents. She keeps silent and watches her friends drone on, willing them to stop.

(The noisiness drowns out and Yvonne’s thoughts fill out the murmurs in the background.)

Scene 6

Downstairs, Sylvia and Vivian are chatting over drinks at the dining table. Vivian picks up on the topic of Mandy, Sylvia’s unfilial daughter. Vivian shows how she hates her sister’s non-caring attitude, saying it’s what lets the daughter treat her own mum like this.

Sylvia desperately tries to ignore the comments made by Vivian and takes the cups into the kitchen to wash.

In the kitchen, out of sight from Vivian, Sylvia turns towards the cupboard where she stores her medicine. She suddenly feels groggy and tries to reach for the bottle of pills infront of her but she faints.

(The scene is shot from Vivian’s angle)

Vivian sighs, giving up again. Just then, she hears cups shattering in the kitchen and she immediately rushes towards the sound, to find Sylvia sprawled across the floor, unconscious.

Vivian picks up the phone and dials for the house doctor immediately.

(The scene fades off as the voice of Vivian drones out.)

Scene 7

Vivian waits outside Sylvia’s room, pacing about nervously. The doctor emerges from the room, closing the door silently behind her. Vivian immediately asks how Sylvia is. The doctor sighs once, hesitating then begins ‘Sylvia’…

(The camera shoots the scene from a further angle where the two figures are only silhouettes)

The voices are muted and Vivian staggers backwards upon hearing what Dr. Elaine has just told her.

Scene 8

Vivian waits at home sternly for Mandy the next day. Mandy ignores her aunt and heads for her room but the aunt starts to have a talk with her.

Unable to tell the truth of the mum’s real condition, Vivian tells Mandy that she needs to come back immediately after school the next day to care for her mum.

Mandy says ‘whatever’ but agrees to.

Scene 9

Mandy goes in a different direction from her friends after school, ready to head home. Her friends stop by to ask her to join them for a movie before leaving. Mandy hesitates (shows that she still has her mum in mind underneath her strong front).

Mandy assumes that Vivian would be home to care for her mum so she takes up her friends offer. She has no idea that Vivian is counting on Mandy to return home so she does not bother to stay home.

Scene 10

In the cinema, Vivian’s missed calls flood the phone. And the calls come one after another. Mandy is aware of it but she ignores the caller.

At the end of the movie, Mandy feels bad for neglecting her sick mum and she enters a flower shop to buy a bouquet for her sick mum. That is when she finally picks up Vivian’s call.

Vivian talks through and the words are barely comprehensible. But Mandy manages to make out the words that her mum is dead.

Mandy drops the chosen bouquet of flowers and runs home immediately.

Scene 11

Back at the house, Vivian is waiting outside the gate for Mandy to return home. Mandy realizes what the situation is about and she tears. Vivian scolds Mandy and says she doesn’t deserve to be Sylvia’s daughter.

Vivian slaps Mandy and walks away.

(The scene is in slow motion then)

Scene 12(part credit)

Mandy sits in her room and flips through her toddler pictures, where her mum is still alive and well.

(The scene switches between the scene of her mum’s coffin being lowered into the grave on a rainy day and the scene of the daughter in her room with memories in her head.)
